Accell, a Silicon Valley-based company specializing in commercial and home theater equipment, has released a surge protector for the green community. The new line of GreenGenius Smart surge protectors are reportedly eco-friendly. It is very similar to the Belkin Conserve Energy-Saving surge protector in that it has several always-on outlets and the rest are auto-switch outlets that turn off when a sensor detects an appliance has shut down. The Accell models come with either 6 or 10 outlets. You can find them for about $35 USD.
With the GreenGenius, you won’t have to worry about the wasted energy of standby electronics. A built-in sensor knows when designated equipment is turned off and thusly shuts off power to the respective surge protected outlets. The coolest feature is that it automatically detects when the electronic devices are turned on again and so returns power to the respective protected outlets. If you are unaware of just how much energy is wasted by standby-powered devices, the Department of Energy estimates it at least 15% of a home’s energy use. The Accell smart surge protector eliminates this waste and saves you money.

They come equipped with RJ11 and RJ45 splitters and gold plated coaxial cable connections for total home theater protection. It also has a long six foot cord for easy placement of equipment.
There are three types of outlets for the GreenGenius Smart Surge Protector: the master outlet, the energy saver outlets and the always-on outlets. You would use the master outlet for an appliance that uses peripheral devices, such as a computer. The peripherals would plug into the energy saver outlets. Depending on the model surge protector you choose, the number of energy-saving outlets and always-on outlets will vary. The built-in sensor monitors the master outlet and shuts off power to peripheral device outlets when it detects a change of energy flow from the master outlet.
