The Masterplug Surge Protector: A New Solution In The Old World

Residents in the UK have a special brand of surge protector from a Nexus Industries Group member, Masterplug, which allows consumers to quickly identify the Masterplug surge protector products through color-coded packages. Prime Wire Cable in the U.S. also does this, so that you can easily tell whether you have a home theater device or standard wall socket protector, but Masterplug doesn’t specialize solely in surge protection; they also manufacture energy-saving outlet extenders, power cords, industrial lighting and cable reels. Masterplug surge protectors are readily available at the Home Bargains and other discount retailers in the UK.

As you may know, your home is bombarded by hundreds of power surges daily. Refrigerators and other large appliances in your home are prime culprits for spikes in electricity and surge in power. In the office, fluorescent lights turning on and off can create surges as well. Most appliances and electronics will fail when being hit by a surge. This can happen either immediately or over time. The bad part of this is that your equipment will most likely not be covered by surge damage. This is the prime reason why you need surge protection.

A Masterplug surge protector uses metal oxide varistors (MOVs), which are tiny semi-conductors that attract heat from power surges. These absorb the surge and redirect them to ground. With each surge however, the MOVs degrade. This means that eventually you will have to replace the surge protector. To compliment this, Masterplug’s devices use gas tubes in conjunction to give the protector longer life by utilizing a safety thermal to prevent overheating and combustion.

Adding energy conservation to a green-minded economy, Masterplug offers a device with remote so that you shut down designated outlets on the six-outlet surge protector to conserve power. Two outlets remain in the “always on” mode so you can control up to four. There is an All On and All Off switch and then one On/Off switch for each outlet that is numbered one to four.

Confusing for some folks is the slider selector on the side of the device marked with roman numerals. This is a universal remote so to speak and the slider is for other Masterplug devices that can be controlled remotely. It’s quite a unique device actually. Each Roman numeral controls a color coded product. In the I position you can select the 1-4 buttons for separate devices. Slide it into position II and you can control four more devices. The same goes for position III and IV. All in all you can control up to 16 devices with one remote.

The surge protector has triple channel protection (L-N, N-G, L-G) where most do not. Each device can take loads up to 13 amps and 3120 watts on a 240V outlet. In the event of a failing circuit the Masterplug surge protector will emit an audible alarm. And last but not least, Masterplug offers RF filters for noise reduction and cleaner a/v quality. This provides even greater protection for your equipment.
