Belkin for the most part is your standard everyday home surge protector on which you can rely for basic surge protection. And your Belkin In-Wall Surge Protector is no different. It is a quality piece of equipment for protecting your from power surges. It has room for 6 devices, protects up to 45,000 amps and comes with a $50,000 Connected Equipment Warranty. Fairly low standard for Belkin but not too many people have that much money invested in their electronic equipment. And for the price of around $6 you can’t really argue the warranty. It will still protect you from threatening surges if properly applied.
I suppose one of the overlooked features that makes this particular Belkin product stand out is the screw that holds the surge protector in place. This is great when you go to pull a cord out and usually have the whole assembly follow.
Now for the most part you would want to steer clear of something so inexpensive when considering surge protection but with Belkin, the name alone commands reputability. Of course depending on the equipment you are protecting I would advise against trusting this particular product to protect anything of real worth. This in-wall product is the same as the Belkin 6 outlet in wall home theater surge protector. As with every surge protection device, you must realize that with every surge it stops your device will degrade. Thus, the more surges and higher voltage it absorbs the faster it will degrade. There is no real way to tell if your device is working until the equipment it is protecting fails. Some surge protectors will come with LED lights indicating that it is working properly. Unfortunately this product does not.
Another point to consider is that Joules ratings can be deceiving. Tested side by side, two reputable surge protector manufacturers tested under the same criteria showed different results though their Joules ratings were the same. One brand let through 400 volts with a 6000 volt spike test. The other product let through only 85 volts. These results came from test performed by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) along with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). The results showed the inconsistencies between Joules ratings among manufacturers.
This just goes to show you that choosing a product based on its Joules listing is not the best way to make a purchase. As for Belkin products like the Belkin 2 outlet surge protector and the Belkin travel surge protector, Belkin’s In-Wall Surge Protector you can be sure that your equipment is protected.
